Finance Minister Bill English has lashed out at councils, saying they're to blame for the gap between the rich and poor. Mr English made the comments at the release of the government's annual financial statements. He says inequality would have reduced over recent decades, if not for land planning policies that have restricted housing growth and affordability. After being turned down by the Christchurch City Council for a central space, a proposed international market has been forced to find its own land. The Canterbury Business Association's now moving out to Arion Farm Education Park on McLean's Island. Chief executive Taz Mukorombindo  says he was sick of waiting around.
